The South West Essex Branch is run by Geoff Hutton (Chairman), and meet every month in Upminster.
The BBQ Summer was in full swing when we had our June meeting, but a gratifyingly large number of members turned out to hear Paul Russenberger talk about the work of the Rail Accident Investigation Branch. After outlining the history and structure of the function, Paul looked a few real cases studies, both minor and major, including the fairly recent derailment at Grayrigg.
This was an interesting look behind the scenes of railway operation, and what made the evening even more memorable was that we were able to celebrate branch stalwart Charlie French’s 90th birthday.
Many thanks to Mrs. Terry for the cake and also to Charlie also providing some refreshments – a great way to end the first half of 2010.
