The East Anglian Railway Museum is a registered charity (Number 1001579) and is operated by its volunteers.
The Members do all the tasks on site enabling the museum to operate, however if wish to become a member, there is no requirement for you to commit any time to us. Members of all ages are welcome to join.
Members can get involved in the following ways:
Operational: You can join our training scheme and learn how to operate the trains on the Museum's Railway. You can get involved by becoming a crossing keeper, guard, fireman, train driver or signal man.
Engineering: Groups of volunteers meet most weekends throughout the year to carry out the necessary tasks that are required throughout the site, such as sleeper/track replacement, signal maintenance or restoration of trains in the purpose built Restoration Shed.
We have a wide range of stock which are under restoration, from Steam Engines to Carriages, Guards Vans or the smaller items like Luggage Trolleys and station equipment.
Also we have a group who meet on a Wednesday, some of their recent projects include the South Doors on the Goods Shed, the new Level Crossing Gates and the paneling for the GWR 'Toad' Brake Van.
None of the tasks mentioned requires any previous knowledge of specific training, you will be able to work with our existing volunteers and pick up the necessary skills as you work.
