Cara Cleibh (pronounced Cara Clave)
Fresh from their triumphant appearances at numerous Parties, Music days and Leek Festivals - Miss Veranne Doherty and her sprightly bunch of disreputable-looking Rock ’n Reelers will be pointing the nose of the luxury tour bus in the unfamiliar direction of Essex this September.
Expect a variety of surprisingly heart-warming songs on the eternally popular themes of love, loss, disaster, transportation, drinking and betrayal with a few hot Gypsies thrown in for good measure. Unusually for a ‘Traditional’ folk/rock band, their repertoire is a bit light on murder ballads and songs about riding out one May morning. However, if you like a selection of old Irish songs mixed with some contemporary offerings by the likes of Christy Moore, Van Morrison, The Waterboys, Saw Doctors, Steve Earle and Josh Ritter, then they may provide just the right accompaniment to the sampling of a pint (or six) of Hetherington’s ‘Old Combustible’, or similar.
