A Steam Event Day allows you to have unlimited rides on a train pulled by one of the Museum's operational steam engines.
During the 2008 season the engine is likely to be either 0-4-0 Jubilee or 0-6-0 Number 54 'Penn Green' pulling the Mark I carriages or the open wagon/freight train depending on weather conditions/time of year.
Please check on the day with Reception as to which train will be in use.
Steam Days - 25th and 26th May These two days will include a large book sale of 2nd Hand Books. Many books which are not normally on display will be for sale in the Goods Shed.
Steam Day - 5th October This event only will include the Gauge One Model Railway Display which will be set up in our Goods Shed. No Extra Charge to visit the Display
Subject to weather conditions, the Miniature Railway is also in operation (extra charge).
Days marked Steam and Diesel will include one steam train and one Diesel or DMU.

Family (2 Adults and 2 Children): £17.50
A Steam Day runs from 10:30 until 4:30pm, admission includes unlimited rides and access to the entire museum site. There is no pre-booking for this events, tickets can be purchased from Reception on the day. Days
Diesel days are similar to the Steam Days, generally one train will be operational throughout the day and you are welcome to have unlimited rides.
The train will be formed of either our resident Class 04 Shunter and the Mark 1 Carriages, or the open freight wagons, or one of the the Diesel Multiple Units which are on site (these are Class 101 and 108 vehicles).
If you are after a specific train, please contact Reception on the day of the event to confirm what will be running, it is unlikely that we will be able to give definite information before the event.

Diesel Multiple Unit days are similar to the Steam and Diesel Days, there will be one full sized DMU Train in operation
The train will be formed of a two-car 1950s DMU set, either made up from a combination of Class 101 and 108 vehicles. During days marked specifically as DMU Days, no other type of train will be operational.

The Miniature Railway runs on all operational days and you can have a ride for 50p. On Thomas and Ivor days there is no additional charge for the Mini Rail.
We also have some days where the miniature railway runs on its own. Normal Non-Event Day prices apply for entry and rides on the mini rail are 50p each.
The Mini-Rail track is 7 1/4" and 5" Gauge, and a return trip is 440yards / 1/4 of a mile. We run Battery, Petrol and Steam Locomotives.
The Miniature Railway is subject to weather conditions - in the event of extremely poor weather or excessively hot days the Miniature Railway cannot run.
The Mini-Rail is suitable for Adults and Children (and very young children if accompanied by an Adult).
