The Museum is open every day 10:00am until 4:30pm - or dusk if earlier.
On a Non Operational/Static Museum Day, we are open for visitors to explore the site, station buildings, signal boxes (where you can pull the levers and view the signalling equipment) and Restoration Shed (where the trains are repaired and Restored) and Goods Shed (for the Small Exhibits and Displays regarding Tickets and the former Stour Valley Line).
It's also possible to climb aboard any trains which are in platforms - usually one door per carriage is unlocked for you to enter.
You are welcome to walk around at your own pace to get up close to the exhibits. However please remember that as we are a Working Museum some items may be dirty or oily, and that not all walking surfaces are even. We also ask that you refrain from climbing on any trains which are not in platforms etc.
Please also take extra care on Platform 1 (the main station side) as this is the working Network Rail line, and National Express East Anglia passenger trains operate through this platform hourly, seven days per week. You can have a ride on this service, but please be aware that your Museum ticket does not cover this, and tickets should be purchased from National Express staff on the train.
As well as the Museum, the Shop is open selling a wide range of Merchandise, including Bachmann, Ivor, Thomas the Tank Engine and a wide range of railway books. There is also a small refreshment area serving drinks and light refreshments.
Also open is the Curio Coach which can be found on Platform 2 - this is a self service facility selling Secondhand railway books and magazines, there is a price guide in the coach and money should be put in the Buffer on the table. More Details can be found on the Curio Coach page.
