The East Anglian Railway Museum is a registered charity (Number 1001579) and is operated by its volunteers. The Members do all the tasks on site to make the museum operate, however if you wish to become a member, there is no requirement for you to commit any time to us. Members of all ages are welcome to join, although there are some health and safety restrictions for younger members - please enquire for more details.
Members can get involved in the following ways:
The EARM is keen for social and industrial history enthusiasts to become involved in leading guided tours, talks and educational events. If you can contribute to the understanding of our heritage site we would like to hear from you!
You can join our training scheme and learn how to operate the trains on the Museum's Railway. You can get involved by becoming a crossing keeper, guard, fireman, train driver or signalman. No previous experience necessary!
On weekends throughout the year volunteers meet to take on various tasks which need doing around the site. There is always a job to do, from painting to cleaning, to restoration of our rolling stock and site buildings.
We also have a group who meet on a Wednesday. Some of their recent projects include the new doors on the Goods Shed, the new Level Crossing Gates and the panelling for the GWR 'Toad' Brake Van.
We have a wide range of stock which is under restoration, from Steam Engines to Carriages, Guards Vans or the smaller items like Luggage Trolleys and station equipment.
No technical or engineering experience is required as you will be able to pick up the necessary skills as you work alongside our existing members.
