Our miniature railway is open for visitor rides on most Saturdays, some event days and some museum days, subject to the time of year and volunteer availability. Just to be on the safe side please check with us in advance before setting out if you specifically want to take a ride.
The railway can also be booked in advance for private hire, either by the hour or by the day.
Our miniature railway was designed and built in the 1990s by a number of our member volunteers and features two stations, one at each end of the line. Much of the stock first used was donated from the Moors Valley Railway in the New Forest, which helped us to get the railway into operation.
We now have three locomotives: Frederick the steam engine, Ricardo Lampick the shunter and a model of London Transport’s 1923 “Sarah Siddons”.
You can drive one of our battery locomotives on the miniature railway for just £5. This is available on all days when the miniature railway is in operation (except Days Out With Thomas, sorry) and includes a brief instruction session, following which you get to drive three round trips. Your family can even ride on the train with you driving.
No booking is necessary, just turn up. Minimum age 16, suitable for anybody of average fitness.
