We’re having an all out celebration of steam with ALL of our historic steam engines running to an intensive timetable. See how your parents and grandparents traveled by rail in 1950s British Railways coaches and travel back in time in our historic 19th century coaches. As well as riding the trains, you can watch archive films in a real railway carriage, explore the atmospheric Victorian station buildings, learn about the Signal Box and visit the Restoration Shed for a ‘behind the scenes’ look at our restoration programme.

Our huge Victorian Goods Shed will play host to a photo exhibition, ’50 Years of Chappel Steam’, featuring every steam engine that has either lived at or visited the East Anglian Railway Museum over the last 50 years. We’ll be running a passenger freight train and a demonstration freight train, featuring a wonderful collection of our wagons and coaches. We’ll have a go at ‘double and triple heading’, where we couple steam locomotives together and run them down the line as one train…. quite a spectacle!
