An annual celebration of steam, we’ll be showcasing a visiting loco, Great Western Railway No. 813 as well our home fleet of historic steam engines so running four locomotives to an intensive timetable for the first time.
See how your parents and grandparents travelled by rail in 1950s British Railways coaches and travel back in time in our historic 19th century coaches. As well as riding the trains, you can explore the atmospheric Victorian station buildings, learn about and operate the Signal Box and visit the Restoration Shed for a ‘behind the scenes’ look at our restoration programme.
Sat 6th & Sun 7th April
10:00 – 16:30
NB: last entry is 16:30 but we will be running steam engines until dusk (on Saturday only)
We’ll be running freight train and shunting demonstrations and you can see the action of ‘double and triple heading’, where we couple steam locomotives together and run them down the line as one train…. quite a spectacle! Bring a picnic to eat on the field or treat yourselves to lunch or a cream tea in the Chappel Station Cafe, our vintage dining car. Bottled beers, ciders, wine and soft drinks will be available in our miniature pub, the Viaduct Tavern which will also be open on into the evening on Saturday.
